Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA ....

Today I will have a Leviathan Imperial IPA from Harpoon Brewery.  The twelve ounce bottle shows 10% ABV.  Their web site lists 120 IBUs!

Leviathan poured with a medium to thick, very creamy colored head.  Beer color is a golden amber.  The aroma has citrus, fruit, caramel sweetness, and a little pine.  It is very smooth and not as intense as I really expected.  The taste starts off with some malt and carbonation, then some citrus/hops/bitter builds pretty quickly.  You also know this has some serious alcohol - there is some in the taste and it is warming going down.  This is actually a smooth, heavy Imperial IPA.  The malt, hops and alcohol all blend and nothing really overpowers.  You don't get any crazy bitterness that the 120 IBUs implied.  There is a little bitter aftertaste.  Another tasty IPA.
