Big Sky Bobo's Robust Porter ....

March 1st!  I have worked my way through two months of beers - ten more to go.  Tonight I will try my first beer from Big Sky Brewing Company, a Bobo's Robust Porter.  The twelve ounce bottle shows 6.2% ABV and the web site shows 32 IBUs.  This is a limited release - not sure how long or how often it would be available.

Bobo's poured with a very thick, chocolate colored head.  The beer color is a dark brown that looks black.  No light penetrates the beer when the glass is held up to the light.  The aroma has a great heavy, chocolate scent.  Medium to full bodied.  With the color and the aroma, I almost expected a really strong beer like a heavy stout.  So the first sip, or at least the first part of the sip, seemed a little thin.  But the latter part of the sip really builds - you get a creamy mouth feel and a smoky malt finish.  There is some real coffee in the flavor.  A little chocolate and vanilla as well.  The aftertaste leaves you with a little bitter and the smoky malt.
