Rahr Gravel Road ....

Tonight I will have a Gravel Road, German-Style Altbier, from Rahr & Sons Brewing Company.  Twelve ounce bottle.  The Rahr web site shows 7.25% ABV and 60 IBUs.  This is a seasonal, available July through August.

Gravel Road poured with a small, tan to brown colored head.  Beer color is a darker copper or brown.  Although fairly dark, you can see a fair amount of light through the glass when held up to the light.  The aroma has a roasted or burnt quality to it, with some cocoa and caramel sweetness.  Medium bodied.  The taste follows the aroma, with toasted malt, caramel and cocoa.  Mild underlying bitterness.  Maybe a little thin in the mouth feel.  The aftertaste leaves you with some cocoa and mild bitterness.  Not overly complex, but a nice flavorful beer.
