New Belgium Red Hoptober ....

Today I will have a Red Hoptober, a fall seasonal, from New Belgium Brewing Company.  The twelve ounce bottle shows 6% ABV.  Their web site lists IBUs at 60.

This beer poured with a small to medium, tan colored head.  Beer color is a dark copper.  The aroma is a real mix.  There is some caramel/brown sugar & malt, then you get some real hops.  It almost seems like they are competing for who is dominant.  The taste is toasty, almost a burnt quality.  Caramel, spice.  Some pine bitterness, especially towards the finish.  The taste, like the aroma, seems to be going back and forth between malt and hops.  A little on the strong side of medium bodied.  A lot going on in the flavor department - reminds me a little of Real Ale Phoenixx, but not quite as strong.
