Brooklyn Lager ....

Today I will have the Lager from Brooklyn Brewery.  The twelve ounce bottle shows 5.2% ABV.  The web site lists 33 IBUs.

This beer poured with a medium, creamy colored head.  Beer color is a golden amber.  The aroma has some sweet malts, caramel.  The taste is malty; not as sweet as the aroma.  Grains, a little citrus.  Finishes a little grassy and leaves you with a mild grassy aftertaste.  This beer is not what I think when I think "lager".  It has a lot more color, aroma and taste.  Not overly complex, but tasty.

Anchor Old Foghorn ....

Today I will sample an Old Foghorn, Barleywine Style Ale, from Anchor Brewing Company.  8.8% ABV is listed on the twelve ounce bottle.

Old Foghorn poured with a medium, tan colored head.  Beer color is a darker copper.  The aroma is sweet, with brown sugar, caramel, dark fruit and a hint of the higher alcohol.  The alcohol really stands out in the taste.  There is also dark fruit, caramel, molasses and malt.  Some nice hops balance it out, but never really make it to bitter.  Taste is not as sweet as the aroma.  Leaves you with a dry, not quite bitter aftertaste.

Dogfish Head Tweason'ale ....

Tonight I will have a Tweason'ale from Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales.  A seasonal, gluten-free, sorghum-based ale brewed with strawberries and buckwheat honey.  6% ABV is listed on the twelve ounce bottle.

This beer poured with a thin, white head.  Beer color is an orange-ish amber/copper.  It is very clear.  The aroma is very fruity, with the strawberry standing out.  High on the sweet-meter.  The taste is not as fruity and sweet as the aroma, although the strawberry is definitely in the forefront.  A sweet malt-like character.  There is a definite molasses taste in the background.  Grassy towards the finish.  Effervescent.  A little thin.  The aftertaste is a little metallic.  More than anything, this reminds me of a lighter, fruity summer wheat where the light wheat/yeast quality in the background is replaced with a molasses-like quality.  I usually don't like beers this fruity, but this makes a nice light summer drink.

Point Belgian White ....

Tonight's beer will be Point Belgian White from Stevens Point Brewery.  Twelve ounce bottle.  Their web site shows 5.38% ABV and 15 IBUs.  A Belgian Style Wheat Ale brewed with Coriander and Orange Peel.

This beer poured with a very thin, white head.  Beer color is a pale to medium yellow, and mostly clear.  The aroma has the wheat/yeast and spice you expect.  Medium bodied.  The taste is grain, citrus, spice and a somewhat metallic quality.  The aftertaste leaves you with a little of the grain/bread.  This is a middle of the road beer for this style, not too week or strong.  Would be good for drinking several during the summer!

Boulevard Double-Wide IPA ....

Today is IPA Day!  So I am going to have a BIG IPA: Double-Wide IPA from Boulevard Brewing Company.  The 1 pint, 9.4 ounce bottle shows 8.5% ABV.  Their web site lists 71 IBUs.

Double-Wide poured with a VERY thick, creamy colored head.  Beer color is a very appealing copper.  The aroma has an exotic citrus quality to it, with some honey and caramel.  Medium bodied.  The taste has grapefruit, a little pine, malt, some sweetness.  There is good carbonation and mouth feel.  Smooth.  Leaves you with a little pine bitterness in the aftertaste.  A very nice beer, and a good choice for IPA Day.

Buffalo Bill's Alimony Ale ....

Tomorrow is National IPA Day, but I am starting early.  I will have the Alimony Ale IPA from Buffalo Bill's Brewery.  6.8% ABV is shown on the twelve ounce bottle.

This beer poured with a thick, somewhat creamy colored head.  The beer is a slightly cloudy, orange-ish amber color.  I am getting mostly mild, sweet citrus in the aroma.  Floral, honey qualities.  The taste is milder IPA, with malt and sweetness, and not as much citrus and bitterness.  Some bitterness comes in in the middle and sticks around to the end of the taste, but it is not very sharp.  The aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen ....

Today's beer is a Hefeweizen from Widmer Brothers Brewing.  The web site lists 30 IBUs and 4.9% ABV.

This beer poured with a small, white head.  Beer color is medium yellow/gold, and is very cloudy.  The aroma is mild, with some sweetness to it.  Yeast, grass, maybe a little fruit.  The taste is mild as well.  It starts  off with some malt and yeast, but then gets a little thin and grassy towards the finish.  A little spice.  Slight grassy/metallic aftertaste.
